Korean/Taiwan cast iron reproductions first appeared on the Dimestore scene in the mid 1980's. Even from their first appearance, they have been passed as Vintage Grey Iron figures. Though most experienced Collectors easily recognize these figures, they are still fooling new and novice collectors today.
These figures do have certain characteristics which make them easy to spot. Their appearance is often bloated and crude with most of the facial features appearing garish and clown-like. The most common colors are forest green and light grey, but sometimes you do run across some that has been re-painted and have a fair appearance. In allot of cases, these figures are purposely aged by various methods to make them appear old.
Although they are not widely collected, a collector can put together an interesting group of these figures. In very good condition a collector should be able to purchase these figures for around $5.00 each.
